Why not make it so Rated matches require say at least 5+ real people, but unrated matches can have any amount?

This isn't for most older players because they were raised in a different generation with different morals. When i was seven i was stupid. I didn't really concept right and wrong and i didn't care. Besides now i'm older and look at little kids even some 13 year olds and think they have been dropped on their heads. Young kids are just stupid they don't think ahead, don't realize wright and wrong, and consequences. Besides some people use the same passwords for everything and it doesn't take long for an insecent 7 year old to annoy his parents to get something like his dad's GW password. The officer should be demoted though, but given a chance to get back his old rank.

You gotta make an example outta people like that.
If I or my Guild Leader catch ANYONE starting a guild battle with more than 2 henchies, unless they have permission, they are KICKED. No questions asked. It's just the rule around my guild, and you know what? Our rank doesnt drop thousands of spots for random reasons! Manage your officers/guild better, Anet shouldn't have to worry about your officer's lack of control.

If that was my son... I would have banned him from the comp for that one.

That said, my son has his own account, just so he can't screw up my chars, and knows better than to use mine (he's only just turned 9 btw, and I'm damn proud of how well he's doing so far)

Of course, it's wonderful fun for the child to play, and I'm one to encourage that type of thing, but then, I suck at the game in general, and only play for the enjoyment and nothing competitive.

wow, sounds like a fun guild to be in ... not. if my guild officer's son had done it, I'd laugh about it, and we'd tease the guy for days about it, while just GvGing and getting the rating back. "kick without questions"?? are you one of those guilds that is kicking people if they haven't been online for 3 days?

Seriously, some of you should get a life ...

what's wrong with a father letting his son to play? He probably gave him a new character to play, and the kid found the guild hall and started the battle (many 7 year olds aren't so dumb as some said earlier ...). Should he have bought another copy of the game just to let the kid play once a week? Should he be watching him while he plays? Many solutions, but the situation seems quite normal to me.

No, we kick after a week of inactivity unless you have posted to our forum that you will be away for an extended period. We are a PvP guild and take our GvG battles seriously.

Reminds me of a wnx quote i read while in my planetside days. He followed it up with something to the effect of, "and one day he will learn to catch a frisbee".

Regardless of the circumstances that brought this instance about, there needs to be some more rigid guidelines on how and when a gvg can be initiated. Doing a human being check before giving the ok to fight does not sound unreasonable.

None of the officers in my guild would let a situation like this occur. I have a 7 year old myself, and although I might let him play, I certainly would steer him away from doing something like this.

I consider being an officer a great responsibilty and honor, despite our guilds mantra of "just have fun". Nothing wrong with having fun and including others (even our children, when appropriate), but when that fun could cause others to NOT have fun, then we have to take action.

I don't consider this situation to be "normal", because it's not something that would regularly occur.

It's not extreme. If you are going to not be playing, you usually know it and can post one short message on the forums. Actually, I kick inactives who do not ever use our TS and forums even earlier. We make every new person aware that we have TS and forums that are used as our guild communications. People who actually want to actively participate stay in our guild and move up. People who don't are not with us long. We understand that our style is not for everyone. No hard feelings. We (the hardcore PvP members who left another guild to create our own) like to play with people who want to GvG/HoH every night. That's what we like to do. We like to be able to chat even when just running peopl in PvE. TS is a BIG requirement in our guild.

I have the same policy for my guild. Though we have a 5 day policy, not the full 7. We're leanient on some members of course, but one month would never last. 2 weeks would never last, week and a half is pushing it for anyone.

What guild are you in dansamy?

Knight Vision. We are fairly recent, but all of our officers and leader left Knights of Singularity due to the inactivity of its leader. We got frustrated that we were the only ones ever on and wanting to PvP but we couldn't. KOS was ~98 on the ladder when we left. Under KnV, we are 4-0 and hope to get ourselves on the bottom of the ladder shortly. We've been running newer PvPers through Tombs to teach them the basics. Got one really nice kid that can't follow targets to save his soul, but he's really trying.

We kick most inactives after a full 7 days. We kick "strangers" after about 4-5. By strangers, I mean the ones I have never met on TS and they aren't registered on the forum. We play nightly and when I recruit I inform them that we are very active players and prefer to have other like-minded people in our guild.

Well, I do thank the OP for this topic. Reading through the posts has been most enlightening.

I was always interested in what actually went into a "hard-core" PvP guild. I don't enjoy PvP all that much, but I always dream of us being able to take our guild out of 5,996th place all the way up to 5,991st. (those 5 teams are pretty tough though...)

It's interesting to hear about kicking after "inactive days". Also to hear of your training methods, like running through Tombs. It's also good to hear that even PvP guilds get some that just can't follow to save their lives.

On the OP topic though, I can see how that could happen. However, I really would like to keep GvG the way it is now because my guild can't always get that many people online (and I'm not real fond of playing Guild with henchies). So being able to GvG with 5 or 6 is very good for us.

I don't think any changes should be made, but it would be nice if the default Random guild battle was NON-ranked, and you had to check a box or something in order to initiate a RANKED guild match.

Brandon, bear in my mind that my guild's sole purpose for existence is to be able to GvG nightly. That is our ultimate goal and we recruit with that aim in mind. Not many guilds are quite as specific as we are. My husband's guild is mostly a PvE thing, but it has mostly collapsed due to inactivity. I will not let that happen to my PvP guild, period.

Well Brandon, as I said... my guild waits a month. The reason for this is we figure if someone isn't back in a month, they probably won't be back ever. Our guild is not a revolving door, but we do have to have a cut-off line somewhere.

I agree that the current status quo on GvG shouldn't change... there are days when it's hard to get people who can GvG with us. We could have a dozen people online at a time, but only half of them might be willing or able to do it. We invite people of all skill levels, so we have low level people online at times that really shouldn't be in a GvG.

I also agree with the default NON-ranked option... I was hoping when my guild started doing it that we could practice a few times to get a feel for it... instead we ended up getting spanked the first two times because we had very little idea of what we were doing...
